Paintings Chuck loves
to paint the drama of the mountains, the tranquility of placid waters, and the
subtle beauty of the desert. Observation of the play of light and
how it changes throughout the day makes painting outdoors exciting and
challenging. The satisfaction of capturing the effect of light on the
landscape is beyond description for him.
Although Chuck loves painting outdoors
and is there most of the time, there are those freezing or rainy days
that are more pleasant in the studio. These days offer an opportunity to
paint still lifes from found and borrowed items. A trip to the kitchen or
the local market fills out the subject. The quiet beauty of a stately
vase, a rugged jug, and the varied colors and shapes of various fruits and
vegetables are selected to create a cohesive theme. Painting from life
offers the same challenges whether indoors or out, and it is the thrill of
capturing the beauty of nature that excites Chuck.
